Converting Unknowns into Stars

We're clearly no Southampton BUT we've had a reasonably strong recent record attracting lower division players and converting them into future stars, trolling the overseas markets for cast offs and developing players through our development set up. We've also been able to attract a few high quality loanees from the PL. So where will Chris Hughton go in January? Lower league potential, overseas players, development squad, PL loanee or a mixture?

Wouldn't we ALL love to sign some new diamonds?

- Relative unknowns - Glenn Murray, Liam Bridcutt, Will Buckley, Elliott Bennett, Ashley Barnes, Craig Noone
- Overseas castoffs - Leonardo Ulloa, Bruno, Calderon, Vicente, David Lopez, Orlandi
- Development Players come good - Lewis Dunk, JFC, Solly March, Christian Walton, Tommy Elphick, Steve Cook
- PL Stepdowns - Matthew Upson, Wayne Bridge, Darren Bent, Paul McShane, Jessie Lingard

We've also (in this time) wasted time, energy, money on a fairly long list of players who added nothing - Harley, Agdestein, Painter - etc etc.

Leo Ulloa wasn't any castoff. He went back to Spain the week after we'd bought him to collect the trophy for the highest scorer in the Spanish Segunda. He was a relative unknown in the UK.

We bought Walton from Plymouth not developed him our selves and that is unfair on Painter as he was good for us when in a lower league as indeed where many others but we progressed as he got older and slower hence the parting of the ways. It happens to the worlds best players nobody stays young for ever.

Its NYE and you are trying to be sensible, please leave this sort of thing out so we have room for the binfests.

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
But they are never stars with and for us - only after they have gone

I think he was referring to Paynter but used the wrong spelling. Marcos Painter was a Prem step down from Swansea.

I doubt it as Paynter was only on loan so why not include Obika Lita etc other loan signings who didnt light us up. Agustein and Harlery were both step downs from Swansea and both proved to be flops.

Couldn't get in the Almeria first team the season we bought him though?

Yes, sorry meant Paynter....my etc etc includes lots of players as described Obika etc etc who didn't show up when they pulled on the stripes. Wasn't Harley to us directly from Exeter? Sorry mind is slipping as it's NYE. I won't expect any posts until heads clear tomorrow late : )

Murray was a star, as was Bridcutt. Ulloa was a $8M star for us. We seem to be able to find em - but we struggle to keep em. Add the one and only BZ to that list as well. Bristol Rovers Reserve.........when we found him. We seem to occasionally find some decent talent.
