A 2-0 defeat against Derby County saw Brighton & Hove Albion under-18s eliminated from the FA Youth Cup at the Amex.
*
The Seagulls started a goalless first half strongly, with Jordan Maguire-Drew striking narrowly over the bar after controlling Connor Tighe’s cross-field pass brilliantly.
*
Centre-back Ben White then saw his close-range header saved by Rams keeper Eric Behrens, after a well worked short corner.
*
However, it was the visitors who had the best chance to open the scoring as their own centre-back, Jorna Moulton, met Callum Guy’s inswinging corner at the back post, but he failed to convert from just two yards out with 22 minutes played.
*
Contrary to the opening half of the match, it was Derby who started the second period brighter, as Tom Mellors watched his looping volley go just over the bar. He was also denied by an excellent save from Bailey Vose after finding himself one-on-one with the Albion ‘keeper.

Vose was beaten on the hour mark though, as a low cross from Sam Dryden on the right flank was flicked towards Offrande Zanzala, and the striker netted with a powerful finish from close range.
*
Six minutes later the visitors doubled their lead; again a cross came in from the right which was met by Alex Babos, whose looping header was helped across the line by Mellors.
*
On 85 minutes the hosts went close, but Ragnar Mar Larusson’s outstretched leg was inches away from converting substitute George Cox’s low drive across the box.
*
A final chance to pull a goal back came in injury-time when Cox put another cross in, this time finding James Tilley, whose glancing header went just wide.ALBION: Vose (GK); Courtney (Meyers 76), Barclay, White, Barnett (Cox 74); Hutchinson, Collar, Maguire-Drew, Tighe, Pring (Mar Larusson 53); Tilley.
