Brighton & Hove Albion women’s manager James Marrs praised his side’s battling qualities following a hard-fought 3-0 win over Copsewood today.Marrs was delighted with the way his side grafted to victory in testing conditions against the Coventry-based side.
He told seagulls.co.uk, “I thought we were really good today. We moved the ball around well and restricted what chances they had.
“They made us work for it; it wasn’t handed to us as they fought and scrapped for everything, so it definitely wasn’t an easy victory for us. We knew what test they would pose and we tried to match them physically.
“The pitch and the conditions weren’t the greatest and it was pleasing to see that the players which I’ve brought into the squad have staked their respective claims to be regulars in the side."

The Albion manager was thrilled for Danielle Carlton and Vicky Ashton-Jones, who both made their first-team debuts following their return from long-term knee injuries - Carlton also netting in the win. Lauren Davis also made her bow for the first team after struggling with injury in her first few months at the club.“It’s not a bad way [for Danielle] to open her account in her first game and it was great to have Vicky and Lauren back as well.
“It was good for those players to get some valuable minutes under their belts and hopefully they can continue to kick on from here and have a good second half of the season.”
The win was Albion’s seventh consecutive victory in all competitions and Marrs believes the success is largely down to concentrating on one game at a time.
“Winning breeds confidence. The girls are focussing on what needs to be achieved in each game rather than looking at the end goal. That is especially pleasing for me.”
