Sami Hyypia says Albion's defeat at home to Millwall last night typified their season.
The Seagulls' ninth loss out of 21 in the Championship was also the seventh by a single-goal margin.
Under-fire Hyypia told The Argus: "I guess you can say that (typical). Maybe it's the level we are at the moment.
"It was not nice at all. It's like deja vu to sit here after many games when we are not actually that bad. Maybe we lacked that little bit of extra quality, that we could have got the cross behind the first man and not at him.
"We had a few opportunities to score as well. I didn't count many opportunities for them. They managed to score one. It's the same story."
Third-bottom Albion are two points adrift of Rotherham and four behind Birmingham, Fulham and Bolton.
Rotherham, Birmingham and Bolton have home games today against Nottingham Forest, Reading and Ipswich respectively, while Fulham go to leaders.
Wigan, a point below the Seagulls, are at Watford and Blackpool, stranded at the foot of the table, at Charlton.
