Brighton and Hove Labour councillor defects to UKIP

Leigh Farrow, Labour councillor for Moulsecoomb and Bevendean on Brighton and Hove City Council, will announce tonight he is joining UKIP.
Councillor Farrow has been with the Labour Party for more than 25 years - including four in Brighton and Hove. Earlier this year he was deselected to fight for his seat at next year's elections after a party row.
Nigel Carter, head of UKIP Brighton and Hove, told The Argus: "He feels let down by the Labour Party and will now stand for UKIP at the next election."
A statement from the Brighton and Hove Labour group said: "Leigh Farrow was removed as a Labour candidate following repeated complaints from council staff and party colleagues of unacceptable behaviour, not for any political reason.
"If he wishes to seek election in May for UKIP then that is a matter for him, although we would question whether he agrees with UKIP policy of removing rights in the workplace, such as sick leave, health and safety, maternity leave, paid holidays and more, as well as their support for the privatisation of the NHS.
"His defection to UKIP is somewhat surprising as until now Leigh Farrow has been on record as describing UKIP as 'racist', 'xenophobic', 'further to the right than the Tory Party' and "acting like the BNP."

Looks like he thinks that UKIP is the best chance he has got of hanging on to some council expenses. Not unusual though, there is a well known poster here who has actively campaigned as Liberal, Referendum Party, and is now flirting with UKIP.

I guess he looked at jumping ship and joining the Greens but 5 seconds later said "Nah".

He was. Fairly sure he pretty much stalled the meeting for some time for some bullsh*t reasons too. He is just looking to keep his seat, joining UKIP might get him that.

They seem made for each other.

What makes him 'old school working class socialist labour'? ?

as i dont know him i dont know,i am just going on the article which describes him as a "working-class socialist"........which is a bit of a clue.

the old school part was added by me in reference to his 30 years in politics and a reference to working class socialist politicians being a dying breed amongst the modern Labour Party........Happy now?

The article seems a touch one sided dont you think? I dont see anything from the people he is talking about in an article littered with such references as 'kangaroo court'. Its no biggie, as UKIP wont win anything in Brighton, but I think the article is a little one sided to be taken seriously. Im generally happy. Ive nothing to be unhappy about if I think about it.

Doesnt sound like an old school socialist does it. I could just see Dennis Skinner throwing a tantrum over re-selection, and leaving labour to join UKIP.

I must admit as another defector moves over to UKIP, i can't help feeling that after so many years with Labour, he may be stuck in his ways, not such a good acquisition really.
