Sami Hyypia admitted his tactical change backfired as Albion lost at Derby.
But he also said some of his players do not do their jobs properly as his side went down 3-0 to the leaders.
The Seagulls were beaten by three goals in the first 20 minutes after setting up in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
They then took off attacking midfielder Joao Teixeira and sent on Rohan Ince, who was arguably his team’s best player over the final hour of the match.
Hyypia likened his starting formation to those he sent out at home to Wigan and Blackburn.
He felt it would help cope with Derby's counter attacks.
The Albion manager said: “Football is about learning and if I could turn the clock back maybe I would have done something a little bit different.
“But, of course, everyone who goes on the pitch has the responsibility to do their task.
“I think, (on) all the goals, we were not doing our tasks properly.
“I think if somebody let somebody down is quite hard to say.
“But it didn’t help us to get what we came here for.
“You can judge yourself if someone is letting someone else down or not.
“We went to the old shape (when Ince replaced Teixeira). We needed three midfielders to do that.”
