He's clearly not, assuming 'this mess' is the Albion languishing third bottom right now.

He doesn't choose the players we buy, he doesn't train the players, he doesn't pick the players, he doesn't give choose the playing tactics and he doesn't make the substitutions.

Tony Bloom has gone on record to say that the club are spending more on playing wages than ever before in the history of the club. To be able to do that, assuming it is true, requires the commercial side of the club to be working hard. That's where Paul Barber's sits.

I get people don't like some aspects of the commercialisation of the Albion which reflects the 'modern football' theme that rankles with many. Criticism there is, at the very least, correctly aimed.

Blaming Barber for the on-the-pitch stuff though? Nah.

Your poll question isn't the same as the question in your opening post, BTW. Makes it all confusing. Are you Sami Hyypia?

Ridiculous poll, this in the week we were the first club to confirm we're FFP compliant. Off-field is doing just fine, Barber stays.

Would you agree that his appointment was the start of the decline on the pitch? For whatever reason.

For what it's worth I don't think we can blame him for the current shambles

Bozza I hear what you say in his defence and I agree to a small part.

It seems that when he joined we were loving the journey and the club and I feel you can pinpoint the demise of good feeling from then.,Gus going off the boil being the main one and they did have previous. The customer/fan thing has been attached to him and there seems to be a feeling that FFP success is for no other reason than making his CV look good when he moves on.. He seems a decent bloke and he spends time wooing the fans but while my outgoing to the club increases and the performance decreases I feel a shake out is needed.

All I want is to love the team and have a beer, I don't want a "customer experience"

Completely agree with this. I do wonder if some people understand his job!

How much is he slipping you? Barber is a joke. Higher prices, customers not fans, ruining the match day experience by axing Gully girls for the children, Premier league ready, hear the roar from the north stand and the new fans will come back, getting the sack from Vancouver whitecaps, employing mates who have no knowledge of British football, everything was rosy till he arrived and now the ship is sinking and we've no life boats, I could keep going but my curry has arrived.

Without looking to find out when he joined us (and I'll go and do that now) I don't know. We finished in the play-offs twice whilst he has been with us though, right?

We've not been brilliant since I moved back from Somerset to Sussex. I think it would be unfair to blame me though.

Before he joined our spending was out of control and his remit was and is to make money for the club to spend on players not to pick the players and not to coach the players. The one thing you can accuse him of is being involved in the employment of Hyppia!

Why is asking the question ridiculous, whatever the timing?

Because we're losing the answer isn't to sack everyone. Bloom is getting a world of sh1t too when he is a brilliant chairman, but Sami is so bad he's poisoning the whole club. The right manager could turn this situation round in a heartbeat, Bloom just needs to act and act now.

I was answering a question (that has now been edited out) about whether Barber is 'to blame for this mess'. I took 'this mess' to be our league position. As I said, I completely discontentment with some/all aspects of commercialisation and what it entails, but I wasn't answering that.

What I will say though is that I never blame a player on the pitch if he's not good enough. He hasn't chosen to be there, a manager has. Likewise, if Paul Barber's stewardship of the club is wrong, your ire should be targeted at Tony Bloom, surely, as he put him there and continues to employ him.

I know this was directed at Bozza, but Barber joined a couple of months before our most successful season for over 20 years. So no.

I agree about the remit but it seemed to really upset Gus, could this all have been handled better in hindsight? Also Oscar leaving so quickly seems odd with everything that is happening now. If he is making money to spend on players I don't think this is working if you look at the squad this time last year and now..
