Advice on playing old video files

Have some old video files (nursery nativity and the like) that I would like to copy and store on Flickr. Unfortunately the first ( a ".MOV" file but from 2006) won't play on my PC using any of the software I have (Word moviemaker, Quicktime and the like). The file name says "Roxio 35" against it - vaguely recall this was the software that came with my first laptop if that is any help.

Any guru's out there able to offer advice. I have done the "TIOATIOA" approach, will try "hurling pointless abuse at the monitor" later.

As per Joey above, VLC, plays almost anything and it's FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE and if you make it your default media player for everything the sight of orange cones everywhere is most therapeutic.

For converting, I use Corel

Handbrake (Mac) or MPEG Streamclip (multi-platform) convert nearly everything to everything.
