Albion have no plans to make Chris O'Grady's loan move to Sheffield United permanent, despite the League One club's long-term interest in their out-of-favour striker.
The Argus understands the current thinking by the Seagulls is for O'Grady to get games and goals to restore his confidence during his stint at Bramall Lane until January.
Blades boss Nigel Clough, speaking to the Sheffield Star, said: "Hopefully we'll be able to keep Chris for a while longer and then, after that, we'll see.
"We've not talked about doing anything permanently with either him or Brighton but in situations like this the thought is usually always there.
"A lot will depend on what position they are in and what is happening down there because things can change quickly in football.
"But, yes, we'll look to keep Chris for a while longer and then take things from there.
"Chris is under contract there for quite a while yet. So that's why so much will be down to what they want to do and why it's impossible to talk with any degree of certainty."
O'Grady rejected a permanent move to Sheffield United in the summer when Albion bought him from relegated Barnsley for a six-figure fee and awarded him a lucrative three-year contract.
He is poised to make his debut for the Blades against MK Dons tomorrow night after sitting out Friday's draw against Notts County with a minor calf injury suffered in training with Albion.
