"A council housing boss under police investigation for a multi-million property fraud has been sacked for gross misconduct.

Jugal Sharma has been dismissed from his £82,000-a-year head of housing role at Brighton and Hove City Council for gross misconduct following a disciplinary panel hearing.

Mr Sharma, who remains on police bail, has seven days to appeal the decision.

The 53-year-old, who owns a home in Holland Road, Hove, was suspended in October last year following concerns raised by an anonymous whistleblower about irregularities in short-term leasing contracts.

In August, homes were raided by police across Sussex, Essex and London and computers and files were taken away as evidence as part of the investigation into an alleged £18 million fraud of council contracts dating back a decade.

The investigation centres on payments made to property services firm KEM run by Mr Sharma’s brother Ashley Parker."

More people are likely to be involved. Council in meltdown.

Tbf they have been overloaded with top priority work eg making sure disabled people in two bedrooms properties are harassed into paying for the bedroom their carer occasionally uses. Dave has insisted, after all...

and if proven he will get a little slap on the wrists, whilst a council spokesperson will say 'we will learn lessons from this'. all these frigging lessons people keep talking about learning will mean there are some incredibly intelligent persons around - Not.

Probably be allowed to take voluntary redundancy with an immediate lump sum payout and pension on the understanding he has to wait six months before taking up a similar post with another local authority elsewhere in the UK.

Dismissal on grounds of gross misconduct isn't compatible with voluntary redundancy. The outcome will be straightforward dismissal, with no pay-off. From the facts set out in the original post, the only outstanding issue seems to be what action, if any, the police intend to take.

If the council have been defrauded of £18 million, why would he need a payout. Sounds like he's got enough already.
