First published in Albion by Brian Owen
England gave Jake Forster-Caskey a rest last night – but it only lasted for 32 minutes.
Albion’s young midfielder went on as a first-half substitute as the under-21s lost 3-2 to France in a friendly.
The Argus revealed on Saturday that club and country had liaised about managing Forster-Caskey’s workload after his demanding start to the season.
But he was forced to leave the bench in rainswept Brest after Nathaniel Chalobah was injured.
A physically strong French team came from 2-0 down to grab the win.
Meanwhile on-loan Albion goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi helped Oman to a 1-1 draw against Iraq in the Gulf Cup.
He was denied a second clean sheet in as many games by former Albion midfielder Yaser Kasim, now of Swindon.
