Albion prospect Glen Rea is on the verge of his international debut – thanks to his club’s blossoming Irish connection.
Rea is in the Republic of Ireland under-21 squad for two friendlies in Marbella over the coming days.
They face the USA tomorrow and Russia on Monday as preparation for the European qualifying campaign.
Rea is one of several young Albion players in or on the fringes of Irish squads.
The Republic’s under-21s boss Noel King highlighted the contribution of the club’s academy director John Morling in making sure Rea did not go un-noticed.
King said: “Glen Rea is a centre-midfielder who can also play in defence. We’ve a lot of information on him from John Morling who previously worked for the FAI and we’ve had a look at him in action for his club.”
He added: “There are a lot of players who can show what they can do on this trip.
“Any one of them can step up and be a key player in the qualifiers.”
Rea featured in Albion’s first-team pre-season friendlies against Lewes, Partick Thistle and Real Betis.
