Disappointing Not Disastrous

For all you doom mongers that think that the Albion's world is nigh, I refer you to our magnificent season of 1972/73.

From 11th Nov. 1972 when we played Millwall and lost 0-3 to 27th Jan. 1973 when we lost 1-5 to Fulham, we managed to lose TWELVE league games in a row. In that time we scored 5 goals and conceded 35. And yes, we were relegated.

So let's be realistic. Although we've been disappointing, I really don't think we've plummeted to those depths. (Words of caution - I hope we don't).

Yep, our one season in Division 2 after Pat Saward got us promoted the previous season.
The other point from this relegation worth noting, is that for the next two seasons, we were fighting relegation in the third division instead taking the division by storm like the Wolves of last season.
It took us five years to regain our spot in the old second division, which then saw the best years this club has ever had ending in the cup final in 83.

We are 1 point better off and have won 1 more game than we had at this point in the 72-73 Season. So I'd say near as dam it to disastrous!

Lost at home to Chelsea in the FA Cup, too, 0-2. Feisty on and off the pitch.

1972-73. We got relegated........

Hardly conclusive proof that the 'doom mongers' (your words; 'concerned fans' would be more appropriate) might be wrong.

But also the season when Tony Towner made his debut and although we were losing week after week, we had a team who came out and battled in every game! I'm not sure the one we have today would do the same.

Yep 2 places and 4 points better, but it was only two points for a win back then.

Not a disaster for me just a disappointment that we were in touching distance of the Premier League and the slide back has been gradually gathering pace since. I think the fact that the facilities are there but on the field and from the touchline it is pretty uninspiring is quite irritating. But hey ho we support the Albion not Chelsea.

I kind of expected us to be shit at the Goldstone, Priestfield and Withdean

Championship is an amazing league and we are in it and kicking.

As long as we stay there then I'm happy and relegation battles can be very exciting.

Bring it on
