"Ken Beamish
A tall, swashbuckling striker who became an instant hit after signing for Albion from Tranmere in March 1972, for £25,000 plus Alan Duffy on transfer deadline day. Looking back at the transfer, Ken recalls, “Brighton were very much on the up and the south coast had great appeal. When you add in the fact that I was also doubling my wages, then it made for a very exciting move for me.” He quickly repaid the club, hitting six goals in just 12 starts at the end of the 1971/72 season. In addition, he set up John Templeman’s goal against Rochdale that clinched promotion. After Beamish joined Blackburn in 1974, he was involved in another promotion success, winning the Third Division championship in his first season at Ewood Park.

I always remember the miss from 6" in a midweek league cup game, against Ipswich I seem to recall? He contrived to push it wide from mid goal.

All the same I really liked the guy.

True Albion Legend.

Seemed to specialise in late goals at the Goldstone. Remember one whizz banger that flew into the North goal in the dying minutes of one game.
Good signing and helped clinch promotion.

Also scored a very late winning goal at Rochdale in the penultimate game of the season.
Presumably the visit of Blackburn prompted this post, as he worked there on the commer ial side for over 20 years after retiring.

In those days it was probably 32000.

I know. In complete contrast to today's health and safety laws, do you remember the "crowd packers" the forerunner of stewards. They rammed you in where ramming was not possible. No wonder they had crush barriers - aptly named. Only when it was so packed that even a fart couldn't escape would they consider closing the gates.

That was the match against Rotherham. 27,000 crowd for a Division 3 match. Crowd made a difference on that day.
