Greg Halford wants to get his season on track at Albion – wherever Sami Hyypia decides to play him.
The Nottingham Forest utility man chose a move south ahead of two other offers from Championship clubs when he signed on loan on Tuesday afternoon.
He got his first minutes of a frustrating season as a late substitute in the 1-0 win over Wigan having only met his new colleagues at 6pm.
Halford has been brought in for 28 days predominantly as defensive cover but he spent pre-season in central midfield at Forest.
He would be happy to extend his loan if all goes well.
The former Colchester and Portsmouth man told The Argus: “I’ll be learning off the manager and I’ll try to get as many minutes as I can.
“I think they wanted me to benefit them in being able to play a number of positions.
“I add a bit of height to the team which I think is needed as well.
“But it will benefit me because I need the minutes.
“I’m coming in for 28 days and I’ll have an open mind after that.
“If a team gets a couple of injuries such as Forest, I may go back there if needed.”
Halford insists Albion remain an attractive proposition for players.
He added: “I had a couple of Championship teams and a couple in a League One interested but I jumped at the chance to come here.
“I probably couldn’t have picked a place further away from the Midlands but I’m really excited about getting stuck in and getting to know the lads.
“They try to play the right way here but the right way isn’t always winning football.
“We haven’t had the results we have been looking for in recent weeks.
“Sometimes grinding it out for 35 or 40 minutes is what you need to do to get that winning feeling back.”
