(or, as ever, don't...)

Figueroa and Maloney stood over the ball, while Walton organised his wall, and the Amex held it's collective breath. In honesty, continued frustration seemed entirely inevitable - I was utterly convinced they would score. For once though in Hyypia's troubled reign, the footballing Gods smiled, and Maloney's right foot attempt sailed 5 feet over the bar. Relief in the stands, on the Albion bench, and no doubt in the boardroom.

With results elsewhere, anything other than a win would have seen a drop into the bottom three - a ridiculous state of affairs, with the level of quality the squad possesses. The same could be said of Wigan though - their squad is packed with Premier League experience and are now level on points, in 19th place. Its a tough league, and we'll only climb it by showing plenty of fight. In truth, nobody can claim this performance as a corner turned - that at Bournemouth was markedly better - but the three critical points are a start. The win can hopefully breed some confidence into the players, to allow them to perform as we know they can - starting with in-form Blackburn, in three days time.
