Albion are signing Greg Halford on loan from Championship rivals Nottingham Forest.
Halford's temporary switch from the City Ground to the Amex is "pretty much a done deal" according to an Argus source.
The giant Halford can play at centre-half, right-back, in midfield or up front.
Albion need centre-half cover for the injured Aaron Hughes and boss Sami Hyypia also wants another striker.
Multi-club Halford, 29, will be Albion's sixth loan signing, one more than the maximum number permitted in the matchday squad.
