What actions need to be taken?

Seems to be a popular debate at the moment, what actions need to be taken to improve the atmosphere in the English game.

The general consensus seems to be:

Cheaper ticket price
Safe standing/Singing sections
More relaxed stewarding
Allow alcohol in the stands

Any other ideas? Will anything change or will the clubs continue to drive atmosphere out of the grounds?

How about a winning team - that will solve most of the problems.

Ultras. Lots and lots of ultras doing the Poznan. That'll do it.

The number one is for people to stop "cringing/getting embarrassed/pissing their knickers every time someone's sings some politically incorrect out of tune song where the syllables don't fit or if the wave a flag where 'Brighton' is spelt with a 6 or some other poor spelling or grammar.

Maybe if safe standing doesn't get the go ahead, unreserved seating in a part of the ground?

In our case, Get the singers as close as to the away fans as possible for me it makes a much better atmosphere.

Having a better selection of songs, it seems if another team sings it, its not good enough, currently we only ever sing around 5/6 songs even at away games.

Beer would always help, but apart from the hardcore, I have always seen us as a group of supportors who would rather watch football than really create a great atmosphere. even when we are winning.

Cheaper prices and standing in some areas are obvious answers, which I certainly would agree with. However, the biggest boost to creating atmosphere - which unfortunately will never happen - would be to reduce the amount of football available almost 24 hours a day, it seems, on the box. In a similar thread to this, someone posted a link to an article which included the following paragraph:

There used to be a pent-up excitement to a game that most times can't quite happen in the same way now because we're satiated with football. If you went to Villa Park on Sunday, you could have watched about nine solid hours of football on TV on Saturday. No-one can keep a football boner hard for that long without vigorous stimulation.

Hours and hours of watching top flight football must rather dampen the excitement of watching lower league football, even a slightly lower league.

Safe standing will not cure the singing problem as you are still assigned a place to stand.

The answer is to get as many of the singers sitting in the same area, not in little pockets here and there. Get 100+ sitting together and they will make a racket and many others will join in. Organisation is the key - get the club involved to make it easier to get these people together and make it clear to others that this is where the singers will be. You really do not need that many in each stand to get the whole ground rocking. The one thing that you can say about that lot up the road is that they have sorted this out pretty well, even though they do have a drum.

Plus winning helps too.
