Sam Baldock admits he thought Albion could go on to beat Bournemouth.
But he was left to reflect on a "bitterly disappointing" 3-2 defeat after opening his account for the club.
Adrian Colunga and Baldock both scored equalisers before Yann Kermogant won it for the Cherries from the penalty spot.
Baldock said: "It's bitterly disappointing. The fact that I've scored is little to no consolation at the minute.
"We thought we had done well to get back into the game and the way we conceded is very disappointing.
"I thought if anyone was going to go and win it, it was going to be us.
"The game was starting to open up. We were finding our dangerous players in dangerous positions.
"I thought if we could continue that until the final whistle then we had a good chance of winning it."
Baldock admitted Albion had to change their game against a typically up-tempo Bournemouth side.
He added: "It was a different kind of game. Bournemouth stopped us playing so we had to be a bit more industrious.
"We had to mix up our play a bit.
"We've scored two goals from front men which is always pleasing.
"But, at the minute, it's hard to look past the defeat."
