Brighton & Hove Albion travel to the Goldsands Stadium on Saturday to face Bournemouth in what will be the 102nd meeting between the sides.The south coast rivals have had their fair share of victories over the years, but it is the Cherries that have the slight edge with 37 wins to Albion’s 36. The sides have also been locked in a stalemate on 28 occasions.
The very first meeting between the two clubs took place on 15th December 1923, with the hosts winning 1-0 in Dorset in a Division Three South fixture.

Bournemouth 1-1 Albion
A wonder strike from Ashley Barnes extend Albion’s unbeaten run to six matches, as Oscar Garcia’s side secured a hard-earned point in front of the Sky Sports cameras. It was the Cherries that made the brighter start to the match and they took the lead through Matt Ritchie’s thunderous 29th minute strike. Ritchie almost doubled the home side’s advantage just three minutes later, after latching onto a cross by Ryan Fraser, but Seagulls keeper Tomasz Kuszczak was at full stretch to deny the midfielder. Ritchie could have completed a hat-trick as his deflected set-piece went inches past the post, but it was Albion who struck next thanks to Barnes. With his back to goal, the Albion striker brought the ball under control and swivelled inside the box to send an unstoppable left-footed drive past Lee Camp. The Seagulls could have secured all three points just before half-time, but on-loan winger Craig Conway saw his effort saved by Camp.

Bournemouth 0-2 Albion
Second-half strikes from Dean Cox and Bas Savage gave Albion a comfortable victory in this League One fixture at Dean Court. The hosts had a golden opportunity to take the lead with a header from Jo Kuffour, but it was Cox who broke the deadlock within seconds of the second-half, after slotting home a cross from Savage. The Cherries were shell-shocked by the setback and it was Savage who struck next, tapping in a low driven pass from the right by Nicky Forster. Albion’s victory was the second match in a five-game unbeaten run, as the Seagulls finished the season in seventh place and seven points behind Southend in the final play-off spot.1st April 1972

Bournemouth 1-1 Albion
Albion and Bournemouth were promotion rivals and Pat Saward’s side followed up a 2-0 victory over the Cherries at the Goldstone with this point in Dorset. Bertie Lutton’s goal secured a crucial point as the blue-and-white-stripes secured the second and final promotion spot to join champions Aston Villa in the Second Division. The Cherries just missed out on promotion themselves, finishing three points behind Albion in third place.
