Quick flag for Will Aid that kicks in in November. It's got 3 simple steps:

Follow this link:

http://www.willaid.org.uk/

1. Find a local Solicitor by entering your postcode
2. Write your will
3. Make your donation (suggested donation: £95 for a single basic will, £150 a pair)

Supports the work of 9 excellent charities.

Having had the grim grief of having to deal with my divorced brother's unexpected death on New Year's Day a couple of years back, leaving two school-age kids to be provided for and no instructions whatsoever, I can heartily recommend it. Might be a basic will but infinitely better than nothing. You can always tweak it later if need be.

I'd echo this, having regular dealings with suddenly bereaved families.

If you haven't got one, you really should do. People are often surprised and shocked by what happens to their relatives' assets if they die without having made a will. They expect everything to fall to the person they feel should logically have it, and it sometimes doesn't. Causes all sorts of unwanted hassle, and at the worst possible time in life.

Particularly those who aren't married but cohabit, and those who have kids, either with a previous or current (unmarried) partner. You can buy simple will writing kits in places like WH Smith, if you don't feel like sitting in a solicitor's office for hours.
