Brighton & Hove Albion manager Sami Hyypia has told his players to rise to the occasion of playing Tottenham Hotspur in the Capital One Cup fourth round at White Hart Lane and believes a cup upset is possible.

The Albion boss believes that his side are more than capable of causing Spurs a few problems on the night if they perform to their optimum level.

He told seagulls.co.uk, “It’s a great occasion for the players to go into a nice stadium with a full house and I want us to play with courage and show the quality we have in the squad.“We will go there with a positive mindset without anything to lose and we need to be bold and play like we know we can.

“I hope that we go into the game with that kind of attitude, rather than be afraid. Why would you be afraid? You go out onto the pitch every time and there are two goals, 22 players, a referee and spectators.

“You need to forget the surroundings whether there are 20, 30 or 80,000 people as it doesn’t matter. You only need to focus on your job and play to your strengths and quality.

“We won’t give too much respect to the opposition. We will show them some respect, but not so much that we cannot perform to our optimum level. If we play like to our maximum level then we can cause Tottenham some problems.

“They are Premier League side, playing at home so it won’t be easy at all, but stranger things have happened than Brighton winning at Tottenham.”

Hyypia also wants his players to not get frustrated or overly concerned if they make a mistake and says it is key that they remain confident for the whole 90 minutes.
