WEST BROMWICH ALBION1
Smith '51ALBION
Maguire-Drew '90 + 6
Jordan Maguire-Drew struck deep into injury time to earn Brighton & Hove Albion under-18s a point at West Bromwich Albion.
The home side broke the deadlock, in what was a tightly contested affair, early in the second half, but Albion’s youngsters showed great character to pull themselves back into the game with a 96th minute equaliser, after failing to draw level with a penalty kick just moments earlier.
The Baggies tried to put their visitors on the back foot from the off, with Andre Wright striking the post early on before several good saves from Seagulls keeper Harry Doherty prevented his side from falling behind.
But on the counter attack Albion always packed a threat, with the pace of James Tilley, Conor Tighe and Maguire-Drew causing problems for the home side, and the latter went close midway through the first half with a powerful solo run before releasing a great effort from range which flew just over the bar.

LATEST NEWS FROM SEAGULLS.CO.UK

In the second half West Brom finally got the better of the brilliant Doherty, a cross from the right-hand side eventually found its way to the feet of James Smith, whose placed finish put the hosts into the lead after 51 minutes.Faced with the prospect of defeat the Seagulls began to structure more dangerous attacks, with Tighe and left-back Dylan Barnett both inches away from levelling the scores.
However late drama was to occur, as Barnett’s curling cross was met with a handball from a West Brom defender, resulting in a 91st minute penalty. Tighe was given the chance to draw the Seagulls level, but saw his penalty saved by Ethan Ross to seemingly seal the points for the hosts.
However, Albion’s determination shone through as Maguire-Drew forced the ball in after West Brom failed to clear a 96th minute corner to give the Seagulls their first draw of the season.
