Brighton & Hove Albion women’s manager James Marrs says his side showed good persistence to recover from a goal down to beat Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. All seven goals were scored in the second half as the Seagulls won 5-2 - their fifth win in six games.
Marrs told seagulls.co.uk, “The way we came back after conceding the first goal was absolutely terrific. Some of the football on show was really good.
“We showed a bit more persistence than we normally do and kept going, even when they scored the goal.
“We didn’t panic and I thought our movement was a hundred times better than it has been, so it is really encouraging to see that the stuff we have been working on in training is being produced on the pitch.”

Despite claiming a convincing victory, Marrs expressed that Albion need to sharpen up defensively after lapses of concentration led to Tottenham’s two goals.“If you’re shipping goals in every game then there are always going to be concerns, but we know what we need to work on and it’s just a case of reiterating it to the players.
“We tend to concede goals when our players switch off and they need to track their runners better. The girls know that they need to improve in that department.
“But some of the goals we scored were superb. I don’t know how Charley [Boswell] managed to head in the first one and the most pleasing thing for me was that we asked the players to get in and around the box and they did that.
“If it wasn’t for their goalkeeper or us hitting the crossbar, then we could’ve easily scored a few more. It was a really impressive display around the final third.”
Up next for Albion is the visit of Charlton Athletic to Culver Road next Sunday, in what will be the side’s first home match in almost two months, and Marrs admits that it will be a relief to be back home.
“It’s nice not to be on the road anymore as playing away games for the past eight weeks has been a bit of drag for us, but you’ve got to get them out of the way.
“It’s good that we’ve played them relatively early on in the season ahead of the colder winter months. We’re now at home for most of our games leading up to the Christmas period, so we’re really looking forward to playing back on our surface, starting against Charlton next week.”
