Albion boss Sami Hyypia has lamented his side’s habit of falling behind.
The Seagulls conceded first again in last night’s 1-1 draw at Huddersfield, which leaves them still 20th in the Championship, a point above the relegation zone.
Albion were a goal down at the Amex after eight minutes against Middlesbrough on Saturday and adrift after ten in Yorkshire before top scoring centre-half Lewis Dunk cancelled out Jacob Butterfield’s early strike with his fifth of the season.
They have been in arrears in nine of their 13 league games. Hyypia told The Argus: “That’s the main problem. We need to be more concentrated and stop conceding first.
“That always changes the game a little bit. When teams come to our place they come to defend very well and try to hit us on the counter.
“When they get a goal that is easier so we need to start games with maybe a higher tempo and more concentration and try to score the first goal ourselves.
“It is making it more difficult if you concede first and concede in the beginning of the game. You have phases where you need 100 per cent concentration - at the beginning of the game, either side of half-time and at the end.
“After every goal you score you have to get your concentration back as well. Those are the phases where you need to concentrate more and we need to work on that. We have talked about it a bit and hopefully we will get it together.”
Hyypia refused to comment on Kazenga LuaLua’s late red card for two bookable offences, one for dissent, the other for a foul, which rules him out of Rotherham’s visit on Saturday. Left-back Joe Bennett missed Albion’s third away draw in succession with a hamstring injury.
