Seems a bizarre court action he is embarked on.

The bloke is one of the highest paid sportsmen in the world, with a £65million deal just with Nike, to say nothing of other very lucrative sponsorships and massive prize and appearance money every season. You're probably talking at least £10million a season, likely a lot more.

He's going for £6m from his former management companies, they are counter-claiming for £1.6m. So the settlement could be literally anywhere along that line. Whatever he gets anyway (or loses) there will then be massive legal bills, surely at least £500,000 and maybe more like £1m.

Then there is the mucking around with his career, he has now pulled out of two big tournaments to fight the case so it is badly interfering with his career, he would have got in maybe another few hundred thousand from those.

The bottom line is that the net gain may not be all that big in relative terms, and there is a risk it could go pear-shaped plus all the grief and hassle, bad PR and potentially damaging revelations - and he doesn't need the money.

No one likes to be done over, but think this was one to walk away from.

he is on £50k a day from Nike alone before he even gets out of bed - clearly he is deluded but once you surround yourself with lawyers who are all telling you the same thing so they can fleece you whatever the outcome, then its all rather inevitable.

"The golfer claims a representation agreement signed by him almost three years ago is invalid and unenforceable on a number of grounds.
He said he signed it when he was just 22. He said he was inexperienced and did not have independent legal advice."

Is that really the primary basis of his case ?

Pfff. Good luck with that one Rory.

His main basis is that he was given an inferior contract to Graeme McDowell due to McDowell owning part of the firm, rather than any commercial grounds.

Then he shouldn't have signed it. Or is he retrospectively complaining about it? It all seems a bit odd.

His claim is that he wasn't aware of that. I don't know if he's claiming he was misled - I'd assume he has to be claiming as otherwise its an admission of a total failure of due diligence.

So he earns far more money than he can probably spend and he's still moaning about somebody having a better contract? I do feel sorry for him

Maybe if he doesn't make the claim then the former company will keep taking fees from him! So he misses a couple of tournaments, hardly likely to earn £6m in those. Also, maybe his counter claim is just to avoid any fees that Horizon are claiming from him!!
