Brighton to London Bridge.

Walk along the Thames Path to Tower Bridge, and walk over the bridge to the Tower.

One adult, one child on a Network Railcard - £15.00. :)

Don't forget to stop off for an ostrich burger or a swan kebab at Borough Market.

Thameslink only ticket to London Bridge - cheaper than one that entitles you to travel on Southern services. Walk from there, either across London Bridge or Tower Bridge. The Tower is visible from London Bridge so easy to find if you are not familiar with London.

The driving option would work out at whatever the fuel costs, plus £11.50 congestion charge, plus £10 to register to have the congestion charge deducted, plus £2.50 per hour to park off-street - assuming you can find a space. The going rate for on-street parking seems to be about £1 per 15 minutes.

You are forgetting a few ales at the legendary Hornimans & HMS Belfast on the way back!?

This. Its a nice walk, maybe half a mile or so, and you get to walk past HMS Belfast on the way.

That's the route we took last week. Quick mooch through Borough Market, walk along by the river, nice lunch in Cote, over London Bridge and straight to the tower. Mrs B (who doesn't go up to London that much) could't believe how straightforward it was.

Still decent, but gone downhill a bit lately. Especially on footy days when they're not allowing football fans in.

You might be right there , or is just the competition in the area.

Personally, I head for The Rakes, just behind the market. Fantastic for ales and craft beers :)

How much is it without a Network Railcard?
And how much is a Network Railcard? is it worth buying one for a single trip?

Taking the coach from Brighton to London Victoria is another option, especially considering you want to leave it til after the busy morning commute. Return ticket for an adult and child shouldn't be more than £15 if you get the right deal. Then it's a short walk to the tube station for a short hop across the centre of the capital.

thanks all, london bridge & the stroll it shall be !

Will drive to the heath, as living in patcham taxi/bus to Brighton station is a ball ache when you want to get going

(the delta in train prices Bton V heath is £7 which pays for the parking at HH station)

2 adults 1 child HH to LB 9.18am train £33.50

Buy a Network railcard for £30 that comes down to £28.55 but you can't get on till the 10.01 train
