Rally Driving experience days

Worthing exile

I was thinking about buying a rally driving experience for somebody for Christmas.

My fear is that I will pay £150+ and they will only get maybe half hour of fun driving.

Has anyone on here done one or knows someone that has? Any recommendations?

Thanks

Regrettably – they are likely to last 30 mins max (40 if you are really lucky)
Done a couple of these type of things and both were a little underwhelming. The last one was a supercar experience at Donnington, I chose the McLaren beforehand and was only allowed 4 laps (the first at a very slow pace to get a feel for the circuit). The time flew by, and certainly didn’t get to put the car through its paces at full potential.
IMO – They are more concerned/desperate to sell you ‘add on’s’ such as the insurance (real heavy sales pitch) and photo’s videos of your experience……

Sorry to be doom and gloom, but there are probably better ways to spend £150

Got to agree, unfortunately. Done three as a freebie and had a really good time, but I wouldn't pay £150 for it - just not enough time in the car and, if you're a competent racing driver, it's frustrating that they don't really want you to test the limits of the car in case your limits as a driver are not as good as you've claimed.

I've got a 20% share in a track car and had way more fun on "my" days. It is more expensive than £150pa though..., but not more expensive than £150 per day.

i did the Rally and it was excellent. might have only been 30-40 minutes car time (possibly more i dont recall), but seems like more, learning to do hand brake turns and powerslides. mine was at Brands Hatch i think.

i've also done the single seater experience and that wasnt so good. a sighting lap or two in a BMW followed by driving a awkward formula ford thing with awful gears and they restrict you to 3000 rev. to be fiar, that enough, but you end worrying about the revs more than the driving. good, but ultimately not as fun.

also did a race day with four cars, each one about 4-5 laps, but you have time between which make s the day go by and that is definatly worthwhile and id go again.

Did a Rally Experience at Brands quite a few years ago now. They had two different courses and you got (I think) about 15 minutes on each. Still it was great fun as it's not everyday you get to chuck an Escort Cossie round on a gravel surface.

Did a Supercar experience in Vegas earlier this year and 7 laps in a Ferrari F430 worked out at about £30 a minute! Again though awesome fun a I'd do it again in a shot.

Or - 20% of a certain Mr Rooney's gross weekly wage, assuming a 7.5 hour day, 5 days a week. Top wages in football really are madness.

Rally driving - make sure the vehicles are Rear wheel drive (not front or AWD) for max "back-end" action

Don't be put off by the age of the vehicles (escort mrk II - cheapest production RWD vehicle available to play with & repair)

Skinny bald tires mean less grip & that means rally skills can be practiced at slower (safer) speeds

I did a Red Letter Days Extended Rally Driving

All day & lunch

Much better than a "Taster" session

11 out of 10 - 4 years ago for my 40th

will go back again for the night time drive
