A Palce fan I know said it will never happen. Does the infrastructure being put in place mean anything in the long run or not ? It's not the be all and end I all appreciate but what does the future hold in terms of comparison .

In terms of infrastructure it's all in place. In some ways we are already a bigger club. Sadly in the one place it really matters we're still waiting. Once we get to the Prem I think we're far more set up to stay there than Palace.

It depends how you measure 'bigness'.

Who are bigger - Leeds or Leicester?

Who are bigger Burnley or Birmingham?

We're all far too close to be able to assess Palace v Albion impartially.

6 teams mentioned, 5 have been in the Premier League*...we're still a smaller club At the moment IMO.

*i know football existed before the PL.

I'm not sure if you missed my point or not?

Who are the bigger club - Leicester or Leeds?

Who are the bigger club - Burnley or Birmingham?

(neither question involve us)

In terms of fan base I think we are on a level playing field.

On the Pitch they seem to be getting better & we seem to be getting worse.

Infrastructure means nothing unless it is transferred on to the pitch. As it stands this season
we are probably more likely to get relegated than they are.

All the time they are eating at the top table & we are not I think you have to admit
They are a bigger club than us.

It is on the pitch where it really matters, the nice stadium is just a bonus. I'm happy to be patient ( as I don't have a choice) and wait for the day when we are better on and off the pitch. It will come...eventually

Big club-ness is highly subjective, fans often find it hard to break their perceptions of certain clubs e.g. Millwall still being seen as big tough hoolies.

Already are imo - but again it depends how u measure it. Stadium and fan base mean a lot for me when measuring these things and we re head and shoulders above them. History also comes into it and they're ahead in that in terms of being in higher leagues for a while. If course, not having a ground screwed that for 15 hrs or so for us. We re lucky with being the only pro club in a large area. Almost the whole of Sussex (Crawley of course are the other). BHA all the way :)

When, and only when, we inflict upon them what they did to us in the play offs. Sod the 5-0 or even the 1-3 FFS match they were both just another game of football in the general scheme of things.

We were close, so bloody close to knocking them down below us, inflicting serious damage upon them, and we blew it.

What's the grading criteria?? It could be based on any of the following...

Current league position? - Palace
History of playing in top devision? - Palace
Current playing Squad? - Palace
Past players / legends? - about equal
'Home grown galant' - Palace
Fan passion - about equal
Competitiveness in cup competitions? - about equal
Stadium? - Brighton
Training facilities? - Brighton
Resilience? - Brighton
Future prospects, hard to judge, but looks most likely to be - Brighton
Local catchment area to attract fans - Brighton

I think a club should be judged on there away support.

Leeds are a massive club I would say on a par with Aston villa.
I would compare Leicester to west brom
I would compare Birmingham to midlesborough
I would compare burnley to Blackburn

As for us I would compare us to fulham.

Huple, you are Selhurst Celtic and I claim my 27p! Your 'long game' is finally over. Long live Mesrine (and your man from La Haine- Sir Vincent Cassell)

Bang on, apart from the Fulham bit. They had sub 5k at home pre-Al Fayed and have a fanbase beyond 5k that is made up soley of tourists. Apart from adding that Herr Tubthumper is a narcissistic middle-aged bore, I'm not sure what else I can add to this debate right now...dot, dot dot, dot dot dot (Renton, Trainspotting)

We had 5k home crowds pre bloom (withdean)3k (gillingham )or going back further I don't think we averaged over 10k during our last 10 years at the goldstone.
