Brighton & Hove Albion’s Northern Ireland duo Aaron Hughes and Paddy McCourt both featured in a 2-0 win for Michael O’Neill’s side against the Faroe Islands on Saturday night.Hughes played the full 90 minutes in Belfast, while McCourt came on as 67th minute substitute, as goals from Gareth McAuley and Kyle Lafferty ensured their best start to any qualifying campaign since 1968.
Hughes and McCourt will now travel to Piraeus for a second qualifier in the space of four days on Tuesday against Greece.
Meanwhile, Albion skipper Gordon Greer was an unused substitute as Scotland beat Georgia 1-0 at Ibrox to bounce back from a narrow 2-1 opening defeat to world champions Germany.

Greer will be now be looking to get some game time in Tuesday’s match against a Poland side that will be buoyed by their impressive 2-0 victory over the Germans - their first ever competitive win in 19 meetings with their neighbours.Jake Forster-Caskey will be targeting another place in the starting line-up for the England under-21’s European Championship play-off second leg against Croatia in Vinkovci on Tuesday, after playing the full 90 minutes in a 2-1 victory for Gareth Southgate’s side on Friday.
Christian Walton played the full 90 minutes for the England under-20s, as they secured an impressive 3-2 victory over hosts Holland in the Four Nations Tournament in Heerenveen.
Walton was an unused substitute four days previously in a 1-0 win against Germany but then replaced Exeter City keeper Christy Pym between the sticks.
