While reading that Sir Geoffrey Boycott is querying Cameron's choice of William Hague as the greatest living Yorkshireman it got me thinking about living Sussex born legends.

Apparently Piers Morgan was born in Newick.

There must be lots of more worthy gentlemen born in Sussex.

I'm going for Steve Ovett.

None of those could be classed as Great, and associating Cowell with music is pushing the boundaries of reason.

I personally don't like 'greatest' accolades. It works for counties such as Yorkieshire and Lancywankyshire because they have a glut of human mediocrity.

It's a very sparse list, as far as global reach goes we seem to be left with Simon Cowell and Piers Morgan, neither has benefited mankind in any meaningful way. Apart from earning themselves lots of money. Sorry, Mrs Cowell.
Sussex nowadays does not appear to encourage true greatness in the offspring of local people, maybe they have all been squeezed out by JCL's and people DFL.
