Brighton & Hove Albion manager Sami Hyypia says his players showed great character to fight back and earn a point in the 1-1 draw against Watford at Vicarage Road today. The Seagulls were trailing from Daniel Tozser’s 53rd minute free-kick - a goal that riled the Albion boss - but his side responded with Lewis Dunk’s header, before a late onslaught almost saw Albion win the game.
The Finn told seagulls.co.uk, “Credit to the players, they stepped it up in the second half. Conceding the goal how we did was not ideal. From age ten they teach you that the wall stands still and should not move.
“It wasn’t an especially good free-kick and would’ve hit the wall if we hadn't moved. We were then chasing the game again, but we showed we can come back, and with a little bit more concentration or determination in the second half we could have won the game.
“It is not easy to take because in the second half we played very well and created chances to score more goals and win this game.
“We didn’t score from some very good chances and missed the ball totally in the penalty area when we could’ve put it into an empty net.”

After falling behind, Hyypia made three changes, bringing Kazenga LuaLua, Paddy McCourt and Danny Holla on, and the Albion boss was happy with the impact the trio had but disappointed his side couldn’t provide the superb travelling support with a win.“We made substitutions and all three affected the game and did very well; the changes gave us something in our game and I was very happy about that.**
“We have great fans; they created lots of noise and the players got more energy from that. I’m sorry that they are going back home only with one point.”
Meanwhile Hyypia confirmed he is still awaiting news on Andrew Crofts's injury after the midfielder limped out in the second half at Vicarage Road.
