Ok it's that time of the year again....the posters are up!

What are you doing for yours? Do you avoid it at all costs? Any shameful stories?

They always used to be so much fun, but now i'm older and hold down a more responsible job, they tend to be painful.

They are crap. Every year it's the same - when is the earliest I can leave without seeming rude? And like the good doctor says above, an evening drinking with people you don't want to drink with means one less evening with those you do.

Forty years ago there used to be a good chance of shagging somebody you probably didn't expect to shag. Don't seem to be so much fun these days..............

Hither (sometimes Thither)
I imagine i will be back at the Oval. I forgot whether it was last year or the year before that i woke up in a Watford bus depot at around 3am, completely unaware of my whereabouts and precisely how i went from South London to there in the course of around 4 hours. I don't want that to happen again. I have to get some sort of self-electrocution device that sends a terrible pain to my penis every time i accept another sambucca.
I know the do is the night of our televised Friday night game, so hopefully that will make me want to stay unf*cked enough to watch us give someone a slapping.

I used to look forward to them and enjoy them (aged 17 - 25)
then I dreaded them but enjoyed them (aged 25 - 35)
now I dread them and hate them (aged 35+)

Good shout. The only thing I would add is that from 40+ you realise nobody really cares if you go or not (unless you are the boss) so just stop going and ignore the 'boring oil git' comments the next working day

There's one for our region that costs £10 but is being subsidised by the company; for that you get a three course meal, £10 of drinks vouchers and a raffle ticket to win a TV, braclet and a bunch of other stuff. It's the most generous I've ever seen them and makes me suspicious they'll end the night with redundancies

We won't be having one this year due to one member of staff doing so much to ruin last year's that it has been decided it's better not to bother rather than risk a repeat.

Is that member of staff still working at the same place ?

I try to avoid them these days - when I lived in Brighton, i'd always have a couple of colleagues / drinking buddies, so they were definitely more fun.

Antipodean Christmas parties (so far) have been worse than the one i had at NCP during my teenage years - being surrounded by socially awkward traffic wardens in Hawaiian shirts, all trying to use the line 'do you like a man in uniform?' on the girls from my office. Absolute depress fest

They are rather tedious.

Sadly this year we are doing a whole company one which means having to socialise with sales centre workers.

I shall be avoiding
