Brighton & Hove Albion women’s manager James Marrs says his side is relishing the prospect of taking on Gillingham at the Priestfield Stadium tomorrow night, 7.45pm kick-off.The Albion manager says the players are really looking forward to performing at a Football League ground and believes it is sign that the women’s game is on the rise.
He told seagulls.co.uk, “It’s brilliant that the game is going to be played in a professional stadium. The girls are absolutely buzzing and looking forward to the game; hopefully it should be a good atmosphere.
“The match will probably be played in front of a half-decent crowd, so I’m expecting Gillingham to have a bit of fire in their belly, but we’ll be prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.
“Hosting the game at the Priestfield shows that women’s football is moving in the right direction.”

Tomorrow night’s game will also be the first of two matches in the space of four days for Albion women as the Seagulls travel to Charlton on Sunday, but Marrs says his squad are fit enough to deal with the quick turnaround.“As far as I’m aware, we’re fit enough and strong enough to be able to deal with it. It’s just a case of the players being able to go out there and put in a good performance.
“We’re definitely in good shape. We played two games in the space of four days not so long ago and we’re fully aware of what we didn’t do right last time, so we’re also looking forward to changing our approach this time.
“The confidence is always there. I would like to think we’ll be fairly organised with what we want to do for tomorrow and we have been through our targets in training.”
Kirsty Barton and Charlotte Gurr are both expected to return to the squad after recovering from thigh and ankle injuries respectively, while Danielle Carlton and Vicky Ashton-Jones are still ruled out with long-term knee injuries.
