I'm thinking you'd be able to use a Burgess Hill to Lewes ST via any reasonable route. And going via Brighton is more reasonable than, say, doubling back to Wivelsfield/Haywards Heath and catching an Eastbourne train. So if it's a reasonable route, you'd be allowed to break your journey at Brighton shirley?

Provided it's not for a specific route, I think you can use it at any station that you can "reasonably" use to get from A to B. So, I would think Brighton is ok, Glasgow is not.

As you flash your pass at a gate attendant at Brighton, an extremely loud siren will go off, a 2000w spotlight will swamp you in light, and four black clad SWAT style policemen will demand you hit the deck, while pointing large calibre machine pistols at your noggin. Don't want to worry you, of course, but best to just cross the concourse to platform eight

That's ok, valid via Plumpton or Brighton and break of journey permitted anywhere en route
