Cheers from both fans – but BHA cheered last and longest.
Hone supporters behind the goal cheered ironically when they thought McCourt had lofted his free-kick too far.
But he had guided it perfectly into the path of Gardner on the byline, he headed back across goal and Ince nodded home from close range.
One-nil to the Albion!
As it had to be one way or another.

8:03pm
INCE heads in from close range

8:02pm
“There’s only one Lewis Dunk”
That was the chorus from behind the goal to my right as the BHA defence disintegrated and Knowles was left clean through. He shot low past Stockdale and Dunk was back on the line to clear.

7:58pm
BHA have made the start they would have wanted - apart from failing to take that chance.
Burton boss Rowett has just come to the edge of the technical area to try and tweak*things tactically.

7:56pm
Hyypia unhappy with an aerial challenge on Stockdale as the keeper came out to catch a lofted free-kick.
A foul was given.

7:54pm
Very good chance that for Gardner - and great work by McCourt to get BHA in*behind their hosts.
Chicksen then drilled in another low cross which was smothered away from CMS by the defence.

7:52pm
BHA should have been ahead in the sixth minute after a very confident start.
They kept the ball for a while, then McCourt’s pass inside the full-back sent Chicksen rushing to the byline.
Chicksen crossed low into the path of Gardner and he volleyed wide when he should have scored.

7:49pm
Confident start by BHA.
Looks like Burton will sit deep and make them pass their way through.

7:47pm
Early vocal exchange off the pitch. BHA fans sing "Aaaallbion" louder than Burton.

7:45pm
BHA about to kick-off defending the away end

7:45pm
I will be using the BHA abbreviation tonight to avoid confusion.

7:43pm
Start Me Up by the Rolling Stones is the walk-on music as the players emerge.
Only about five seconds of it though.

7:39pm
WA in that previous tweet is, of course, Warren Aspinall on BBC Radio Sussex

7:30pm
He said he would use his squad – and he was as good as his word!
So how will Sami Hyypia’s much-changed Seagulls side fare tonight away to another Albion?
Perhaps surprisingly David Stockdale remains in goal here at Burton Albion.
That’s no slight on Stockdale, who saved a point on Saturday. More a reference to the fact we thought one of the other keepers might get playing time.
Lewis Dunk is the only outfield survivor from the Blackpool game while Burton make three changes to the side beaten 3-1 at Bury in a top-of-the-table League Two showdown.
It’s pretty quiet inside this tight, compact little ground at the moment.
But Brewers fans have had plenty to shout about here and will hope to see the Seagulls follow Wigan and QPR, who have already lost here in this cup this season.
