Brighton & Hove Albion’s Capital One Cup third round tie against Burton Albion tonight is only the third time that the Seagulls have reached this stage of the competition in the last 20 seasons.Below are some past third round ties involving Albion in the League Cup:
Brighton 1-2 Liverpool
21st September 2011

This was the last time that Albion reached the third round of the competition, in its former guise as the Carling Cup.
Craig Bellamy opened the scoring in the sixth minute, before Dirk Kuyt secured victory for the Reds in the 81st minute. Albion scored a consolation goal from penalty spot in the 89th minute thanks to Ashley Barnes, after Vicente was taken down inside the area.
The attendance at the Amex was the biggest that season, with 21,897 fans turning up with the stadium’s capacity being 22,500 at the time.

Brighton 1-4 Derby

After a hugely impressive victory over Manchester City in the second round, Albion came up against Derby County and were beaten 4-1 in round three.
The Seagulls were 2-0 down before Tommy Elphick gave Albion hope of a comeback. Two further goals in the second half secured victory for the Rams, with Argentine forward Emmanuel Villa scoring a hat-trick on the night.

West Brom 0-2 Albion
22nd September 1976Peter Ward netted twice on the day to seal victory for Albion on the first ever meeting between the two sides, despite playing two tiers below the Baggies in the old Third Division. The Seagulls would go on to be beaten by Derby in the next round.

24th September 1969
Albion, under Freddie Goodwin, were challenging for promotion from the old Third Division and had already beaten Second Division sides Portsmouth and Birmingham City in rounds one and two.
Twice Albion took the lead through Alan Gilliver and Eddie Spearritt, but Wolves came back on each occasion to win the match 3-2.
