Promotion to the PL was realistic while we had a goal scoring striker called Glenn , but we gave him to the enemy and he got them promoted instead. It took a while but it looked like we found a replacement in bargain basement Ulloa but we then sold him to the 1st club that came sniffing because it was good business .35 years ago under a different chairman we reached the top flight ,Tony has done a brilliant job financing the ground and training facility, but fans must get realistic, we will not reach the top flight again all the while the club is being run as it is now.:albion2:

Wasn't the way it is being run how we got to the playoffs for the last two seasons?

Always remember Readings promotion run from a few seasons ago. The two big differences between them then and us now. Is a proven quality striker(Jason Roberts) and a manger who played then right system to suit what he had( Brian McDermott).

Last season we only got to the play offs because of the Poles clean sheets, didn`t the club finishing 18th score more goals than us,and by the way reaching the play off`s does not count as reaching the premier league

Still approx 108 points to play for so not lost yet. Forget trying to entertain till after Christmas and get 15 dour 1 - 0 wins somehow and the picture will look entirely different.

We do have a decent squad, but unfortunately they are not of the quality to play the system Sammi wants, which to me says we have simply two options buy top quality to suit system (which ain't gonna happen) ,or change the system to suit the players we have. In addition I do think we need a tried and tested striker who has a record of scoring numerous goals in this league, our current striker are good league one at best, harsh i know but current results seem to prove this .if this does not happen then survival in this league is the best we can expect.

Last year you were moaning because we were keeping clean sheets but being boring, the previous season you were moaning about possession football, this season you are moaning.

We don't have a divine right or the resources to guarantee promotion, so I'm not sure what you are on about.

Hmmm ..... remind me when we started paying the stupidly high salaries and long contracts that nearly killed us ?

I can guarantee you'd have been calling for Murray to leave after his first season at the Amex. Guarantee it.

Like we did with Ulloa?

Yes but sadly the guys who brought him to the club are no longer with us, care to name a few good signings since?
In fact the players who we have sold at a great profit, Barnes, Ulloa, Bridcutt, Crofts, Bennett Noone and Buckley only TB remains from the days when these were signed and I somehow feel TB does not go out on scouting missions.

David Burke is still at the club, he is responsible for putting together the list of players that the manager has the final veto over.

We seem to have written off Baldock, COG, McCourt, Texiera, Bennett, Stockdale and co already. Some will be okay, some will be a bit rubbish, it's always been that way. For every Bridcutt and Ulloa 'signed' by Poyet, detractors can point to a CMS, Billy Paynter, Holroyd, Hoskins etc.

I understand his role, but if he keeps presenting rubbish for the manager to choose from, surely that is what the club will end up with, under the present structure.

And because he has that role everyone does not have to agree he is good at it.

Agree 100%. It's TB's opinion that counts.

As for presenting rubbish, why not give the players a chance? They may be rubbish, but COG and Baldock have both scored goals at this level before, McCourt can run rings around defences, and Texiera has shown the ups and downs of youth. Stockdale has had little to do, Bennett is looking weak, but it's early days surely?
