Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club to show Ayr Gold Cup live at half-time

Scotland’s showpiece Flat race on Saturday will be the first time a race has been shown live during half-time at a football league ground
Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club, in conjunction with the Football League’s title sponsor Sky Bet, will broadcast the £160,000 Ayr Gold Cup at half-time during their Sky Bet Championship clash against Blackpool tomorrow (Saturday).
The Ayr Gold Cup will be broadcast via Racing UK (Sky 432, Virgin Media 536, UPC 411 and Freeview 231) on the concourse screens and two big screens at the AMEX Stadium in a ground-breaking trial initiative.
The expected near-capacity 30,000 crowd will be able to bet with Sky Bet via Sky’s free Wi-Fi service, The Cloud. The bookmaker will offer all account holders a promotional code advertised on the day to avail a free £5 bet on the race.
Scotland’s most famous Flat race will be promoted on the BHAFC website and App, emails, big-screen and poster ads, and via the public address system.
Clive Cottrell, Marketing Director at Racing UK, said: “Racing UK is delighted to broadcast Scotland’s showpiece race at such a high-profile venue.

“Racing has worked hard to stage its showcase Saturday races at 3.50pm to enhance media coverage and engage football supporters at the half-time interval. Hopefully this trial will prove successful and catch the eye of other football clubs and so help broaden the appeal of the sport.”

Brighton & Hove Albion’s Head of Marketing, Tom Gorringe, said: “At Brighton & Hove Albion we are dedicated to providing the best possible match day experience and so we're delighted to be linking up with Racing UK and SkyBet on this innovative project.

“There is a natural synergy between football and racing with many fans holding an interest in both. This initiative brings top quality racing to British football for the first time, which I am sure will be extremely exciting for all of our fans at the Amex."

David Tweed, a member of the Sky Bet marketing team, added: “We’re delighted that BHAFC fans will be able to add a racing showpiece as part of their match-day experience this weekend. It is a great chance to enjoy a big-race amongst the buzz of a large live audience, and with a free bet to take advantage of, it will really add to a great occasion.”

True, but there is now free Wifi to allow you to connect to your online bookie of choice.
In theory, anyway.

Expected near capacity crowd? Last time I looked there was nearly 3,500 seats left and Blackpool won't be bringing many!

Sorry but I'm totally against gambling. Sky Bet sponsor the league and are now giving us free £5 to bet with but it will cost us more to get the winnings out. No, count me out. Nothing wrong with a flutter but this is all going to get painful to too many people. We'll be building a stadium on gambling profits next. What? oh yeh.

What about those that have no interest in horse racing but want to see the half time scores. Its a football ground not a race course.

The game might start well if we put in a FAST SHOT and if the game is going well it might be WATCHABLE. If we win we could GO FAR and if a particular stand sings loud it could have an EASTERN IMPACT.
