Probably a daft question... Re phone line box

Hello, the previous owner of my house had a 2nd phone line in why is now our bedroom. The wall box is still there (as per photo)

Can I just take it off and cut the wire or do I need to cap the wire? As I understand it, phone lines carry an electrical charge?

Thanks, HS.

For some reason it won't let me upload the pic...

But it's just a big standard wall mounted phone line box.

phone voltage is 50v DC, quite safe to DIY.

i'd put a bit of tape over the end, but yeah a clean cut and forget about it.

I am an ex BT engineer. You can just cut it as it is very low voltage as others have said.
If you want to be neat and tidy the second line is probably wired to the same box as the first line because the overhead dropwire has 2 pairs or if you are fed undergroud it has 5 pairs.
Just follow the internal cable back to the first box in the house and pull the cable out as you go.
This is not the case in all houses but this is how it is done in the majority of houses.
It could be going outside and down the wall or up into the eaves in a small plastic box ( overhead fed) either way you can get rid of unsightly cables either inside or outside the house.
