English child abuse doctor - BBC News

A child cancer specialist has admitted sexually abusing boys in his care.

Myles Bradbury, a paediatric haematologist at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, committed sexual offences against boys aged 8 to 17 between 2009 and 2013, Cambridge Crown Court heard.

The 41-year-old from Herringswell, Suffolk, pleaded guilty to 25 offences including sexual assault and the making of more than 16,000 indecent images.

He was bailed and is due to be sentenced at a later date.

As he left court, Bradbury told reporters "I'm so sorry" and refused to answer further questions.

'Sexual gratification'
The offences involved 18 complainants, prosecutor John Farmer said.

The court heard the blood cancer specialist had worked at the hospital for five years.

He was suspended after a complaint about his behaviour in November last year.

Out of all the dreadful cases of child abuse in this country over recent years, this has got o be one of the most sickening. :(

Gross abuse of a position of trust and taking advantage of enormously vulnerable people. I would hope he gets the maximum sentence possible.

A plea of guilty will almost certainly mean he won't get the maximum sentence. What a terrible, shocking series of crimes. He's got to lose his GMC registration, surely?

When will it end ?

As horrific as this and all the other recent revelations are, I think this kind of abuse has occured for hundreds of years but was hidden away from public awareness. We are now aware of its extent through the media and victims being encouraged and having the courage to speak out.

He's in for an interesting time inside.

Vile, vile man.

Castration would be a good start.

No he's not, he will be on rule 43 and only mix with other nonces/rapists/cowards. The beat we can hope for is a lapse in security and he gets sliced up one day. I would love him to go in general population but it won't happen.

Yes...it has been going on for years. Aside of abuse within the home, which apparently is still widespread, these individuals have infiltrated every area of life involving contact with young children.
Education, the Church, youth clubs and social clubs, care homes, sports clubs, the Scout and Guide movements...etc etc etc....the list is endless. They are always the friendly and willing volunteer, always prepared to stay that bit longer with the kids. Always willing to help out with transport, always willing to go that extra mile. Gratefully accepted by organisers and employers used to apathy and disinclination to help amongst most adults. They are prepared to spend weeks, months and years building up trust. They work themselves into positions of responsibility until they are almost untouchable.
They are cunning, manipulative and sickening and every effort should be made to expose them. They are committing the most heinous offence known to man. The abuse of a child inflicts lifelong damage and leaves scars that never heal.
To me, they have forfeited the right to take their place in normal society and should be removed from it. In the absence of the death penalty, they should be incarcerated for the rest of their natural but sadly, lenient sentences are often handed out by the judiciary, who appear to show sympathy on some occasions.
What is it in our society that breeds this perversion and why is it almost always men involved? Why do so many offenders come from privileged backgrounds? Private and public school education, followed by a career path in the upper echelons of society. These men, often educated in single sex environments, carry the burden of sexual perversion through their lives. Yes, I know offenders come from all walks of life but there does seem to be a pattern amongst certain social classes.
I don't know the answer. I just know that it is wrong and it disgusts me.
