To be fair to Pieterson I don't think he is refusing to play rather than the coaches have decided to play the youngsters, as they have little chance of promotion.

Just reading between the lines I that article it looks like it wasn't his decision and he would only play if it looked like they would be promoted.
To me this says he is probably being paid per game and a lot of money at that. It's experience for the young lads but makes sense financially to play them in the dead rubbers. I may be wrong but that would be my guess
