Ryder Cup team

At 12:30 McGinley has to make public his Europe team for the Ryder Cup later this month.

So, who should his 3 captains' picks be then ? Poulter, Westwood, Donald, Gallagher or others ? Don't generally like Poulter but even I have to admit in terms of team spirit he is good to have even if his form if off. Gallagher almost made it by right, so form is good, should he be there ?

Gallagher is a definite for me. He's played well all year, and being a Scot he will get a lot of support at Gleneagles. I'd also pick Poulter. As you say, he's great for team spirit and is also something of a match play specialist. As for the final spot, I'm not sure. Perhaps one of the Italian contingent?

How could you not have Poulter? He's virtually unbeatable in the Ryder Cup. Donald is pure class and unflappable so must be there too.

Poulter as said the Ryder cup and him just seem a perfect match.
Gallagher due to form really and the fact he deserves the spot
Westwood just due to the fact his form is better than Donald and Donald has been struggling just to make cuts recently

My thoughts exactly.

To me it is Poulter, Gallagher and one of Westwood or Donald. Donald has the better Ryder Cup record and is the better putter so it is likely to be him. I would be disappointed to see Westwood miss out though.

I agree with this too. I'll let you know how they are looking on the practise days as I was lucky enough to get tickets in the ballot!!

I'd agree with this but I suspect that 'politically' we may see one of our mainland European colleagues included in the final choice.

I would also go for Donald, Gallacher and Poulter. Already quite a decent contingent from the mainland in the team and those 3 are the 3 highest in the world rankings that are not in the team already. Donald is usually a very good foursomes player, Poulter turns into a golfing machine in the Ryder Cup and Gallagher has been consistently the best of the rest this year.

Am impressed that Bjorn has got back into the team after all this time.

As much as I like Tom Watson, his boys are in for one hell of a beating.

westwood, poulter and donald for me. Harsh on Gallagher but experience of the big event very important. If Gallagher was definitely to be in, he would have been good enough to automatically qualify

You could make a case against Poulter based on his poor form or others better form, but on balance I'd pick him. I would personally go for Donald and then probably Gallagher.

I think this might be a close contest at Gleneagles.

You've got to have Poulter in the team; without a doubt. If only for his presence and to get the crowd going.

I know McGinley is also a fan of F Molinari as well who is also a contender for a Captain's pick. I actually think Donald might be left out so I'm going for Westwood; Poulter and Gallagher.

Now you've done it

Whatever happens I hope that arrogant **** Patrick Reed gets HUMILIATED. Even his own compatriots have been commenting on his attitude in recent months.

3 wildcards will be ; Poulter (awesome ryder cup player), Westwood (very experienced) , Gallacher (good idea to have a scot at gleneagles)

I get the theory that Gallagher may get in being a Scot and the fact that he has played well. He's also shown huge determination to make the outright team in that he has played in most point scoring competitions available. However this may also play against him in the fact his overall form isn't strong enough to challenge the experience that Westwood, Poulter and Donald can bring to the table. Donald is out of form but his ability to play great foursomes golf may stand him in good stead, Westwood and Poulter will both be good for the team and cometh the hour cometh the main men.

Tough on Donald, but that said, the Ryder Cup wouldn't seem quite right, without either Poulter or Westwood.
