Amex Attendance Thread

So no Albion football for a while - so let's have a look at our attendances.

Interesting that of the three league sides that we have met at The Amex so far, all were visitors last year.

Team: Attendance 2014/2015 Attendance 2013/2014 Difference

Sheff W. 26,993 25,725 +1,263
Bolton. 24,435 26,455 -2,020
Charlton. 26,189 28,770. -2,581

Average down 1,111 per game .................... Ouch!

Does that take into account seasonal factors?

I suspect that a lot of this is due to the current wage deflation issue

Think times of years make a difference.
Derby 10th August 2013 - 26238
Burnley 24th August 2013 - 26007
Millwall 31st August 2013 - 26804

Total difference down on same time last year is 1402 so roughly 700 per game .
Students returning, holidays and money all factors this time of year. Seat are slightly down be interesting to see if the seats swell a bit more with the good football.

A good comparison, first three games this season v last. Also, one of the three matches in both, being a local side visiting. 700 per game, say average spend of £35 a head, inc food etc = £24,500 per match or £563,500 loss of revenue over a season. Not insignificant?

Easy solution, jack up the catering costs to compensate

This,it's very hard out there, especially if you take a family attending into the equation, also perhaps some summer unrest, time of year,a natural panning out after 3 seasons and so forth.Perhaps Bolton has the potential to be the lowest crowd of the season and perhaps this season we break 30k a couple of times and we may find the average pans out much the same, the only slight worry is the the numbers that filled the away end in 2 of the 1st 3 games was higher than most, that said we still get great support and that's 15000 more per game than many had us down for when the place was first built and with this being season 4 at the Amex.

Nah - Not only attendances down but also season ticket holders not turning up - hopefully this just holidays but Paul Barber did say that non attendance was one of the biggest problems as the Matchday revenue loss hit the club badly - after all if you don't attend not only that you won't buy anything but the club can't claim the advertising revenue either

85% of the attending punters not being able to spend as much on food and drink as they would like, due to the ineptitude of the catering operation, probably hits the club much harder in terms of revenue.

Can you explain this more......

So technically two attendances are declared, bums on seats and tickets sold which can have an effect on the overall value of the game advertising ?

Yes - Simples - in many cases you sell advertising to a company based on a footfall or audience numbers - if you don't hit the numbers you can't charge the top rate. So TV advertising, perimeter advertising, even branded lounges and events can take a hit.

Its a bit like the Brighton Pier - they can't charge the rents for the franchises if they don't get the numbers on the pier.

Thought you would know this BH?

Hundreds of ST holders such as myself were playing cricket. I missed the first home game for the same reason. The season ends next Saturday. Then you will see attendances rise.

I agree wholeheartedly - its crap - can't see the club or the franchises being happy and if attendances drop it can have a domino effect even if the queues might be less!
