Wish I was down there now instead of at work

----------------------
A seaside town is bracing itself for a gold-rush after a German artist buried £10,000 worth of bullion on a beach as part of an arts festival.

Michael Sailstorfer has hidden thirty 24-carat gold bars on Folkestone's Outer Harbour beach.

People are being encouraged to dig for the gold after low tide at 16:00 BST. Organisers say fortune hunters will be able to keep any bars they find.

The Folkestone Digs project is part of the town's triennial arts festival.

The event, which takes place every three years and runs from 30 August to 2 November, will also feature work by Yoko Ono.

I'm so pleased that the Guardian website have a live blog to keep us updated!

"A roundup of reader reaction to Folkestone Digs:

1) It’s all a practical joke, there is no gold

2) It’s a ploy to get the townspeople out of their houses at the same time so they can be burgled

3) Everyone is going to have a massive fight and/or get mugged

4) It’s a statement on our collective greed

5) It’s horrible

6) It will all end in tears"

That's really not that much gold if gold is worth approx £600 an ounce and there are 10K worth of gold in 30 bars those bars are approx half and ounce in weight .. so that's like looking for a needle in a haystack

£10,000 worth? That's about 13 ounces of gold.

@ditchy it's £778.40 an ounce at the moment.
