If you follow La Liga you will know that Betis of Seville had a nightmare season 2013/14 finishing bottom and managing to lose on penalties to their sworn rivals Sevilla in the Europa League. You may also know that there is little tradition of mass away fan followings in Spain, barring the big 2 who have fans everywhere, and local derbies.

For their first game in Segunda, Betis won 3-2 away at Sabadell, with a huge 3,000+ away following - checkout the highlights.

Not too shabby,.....until you realise that Sabadell is north of Barcelona and a cool 1,007 kms from Seville - a round trip by car of 17 hours!

Pretty decent, though to be fair return flights would cost less than a train to Sheffield would cost us.

We outnumbered them 3 to 1 in Spain - although they did make a bit of noise for 15 minutes or so

I was sat pretty much with then in spain and they were crazy proper loud, were more like the spartans in 300 then they just went silent for the rest of the game after they scored. Was a bit strange

There are peñas (supporters' clubs) all over Spain. I regularly went to the one in Mataro last season and it's a great atmosphere. A great many of those 3000 fans at Sabadell live in and around Catalonia.

30,000 at the Benito Villamarín yesterday for the 2-1 win over Numancia, making a decent racket on the highlights reel. Top of Segunda.

They have apparently sold 35,000 STs this year, not sure what the pricing policy is but it has worked!
