It was a very disciplined defensive performance. "
Simon Rusk

Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-18 coach Simon Rusk hailed a solid defensive performance from his side after they defeated Fulham 1-0 on Saturday. He told seagulls.co.uk, “It was a very disciplined defensive performance. We had to defend solidly and did it very well.”
“It was a good away win. It was always going to be a tough place to go and we knew it was going to be a really difficult game. I was really happy with how the boys reacted after losing to Arsenal last week.
“We had some good moments of play, the goal was a very well worked team goal. We weren’t as fluid as I would have liked, but it was very pleasing to get the win.”
Fulham started the brighter and should have taken the lead with Aaron Redford blazing an early chance over the bar.
Albion rode their luck in the opening stages but took the lead against the run of play in the 20th minute after an excellently worked team goal.
Josh Courtney started the move with a pass into Connor Tighe, who then pulled the ball back for Dessie Hutchinson to finish the move off and give Rusk’s side the lead.

The West Londoners pressed for an equaliser and almost got one when DJ Buffonge and Lucas De La Torre worked an opportunity for Redford but Harry Doherty saved well to maintain Albion’s lead.De La Torre then hit the post after managing to weave run past five Albion players.
After the break, the Seagulls continued to defend well and frustrated the hosts as the pressure piled on.
Doherty made another fine save to deny Buffonge before Ryheem Sheckleford had a shot cleared off the line.
Jordan Maguire-Drew and Jack Rowe-Hurst both had chances in the second half to double Albion’s lead but couldn’t take advantage.
Ben Barclay and his namesake White defended solidly in the heart of Albion’s defence throughout the game to ensure Albion held on to claim their first victory of the season.
ALBION: Doherty (GK); Courtney, White, Barclay, Barnett; Collar, Hutchinson, Tighe, Mar-Larusson (Mayers 55), Rowe-Hurst (Tilley 75); Pring (Maguire-Drew 70).
