'A Sunday League football team has been forced to fold after a dream game they played at the Cardiff City Stadium contravened rules.

Malsters Arms FC won the chance to play at the home of the Bluebirds after winning a competition run as a thank you to grassroots football. But because the match was played on a Wednesday night the amateur side contravened rules and were forced to fold or face paying a heavy penalty.

The club were summoned to a disciplinary meeting because they are not insured to play on any day except Sunday and did not seek permission from the local body. Whoops.'

Crazy! The FA etc bang on about promoting grass roots football, and they force a team to fold because of something like this. They got a chance to fulfil a chance of a lifetime and it ended up costing the club their future.

I'm guessing Barclays sponsored the competition from looking at the photo, I would be a nice touch if they paid the clubs fine.

The rules governing this are very clear and the instructions quite explicit.

That is utter rubbish, this is a bunch of mates, who are playing for the love of the game and getting to play at a proper stadium, a chance they would never normally get, pretty much a once in a lifetime opportunity. The rules shouldn't matter, it shows how out of touch the FA is with the grass roots game itself. Rules and regulations are fine at the top level and when it comes to league games etc, but this level of bureaucracy and red-tape for a pub side to play a friendly is a bloody joke. The FA or Welsh FA and whoever else made this decision should hang their heads in shame.

Im not entirely sure the FA or FAW have a part to play in this. Surely the team would have been insured with the league they are registered to play in ?

As another poster said, all they had to do was notify the league. Ignorance isnt an excuse.

If they fold the fine will be split equally amongst all registered players and officials who will be banned until they have paid their share

Really? Blimey that is crazy.

But surely common sense must come into play.

You would hope so, like someone else said, it shows how out of touch the FA is with grassroots football.

Yeah and great publisity for them to, as Im sure someone fairly high at Barclays would make sure that the papers or media are notified!

.....and totally unnecessary, I would imagine. What is the point of making rules for the sake of it that don't benefit or protect anybody?

The rules are there to administer the game and to protect everbody. To have reached that final they would have had to be reasonably good so probably rather than just a bunch of lads playing the game, as it is made to appear, were in fact players who play at a good level. As per the better teams in the Sussex Sunday League.

But they still don't deserve to fold do they?
