I thought they'd be travelling overnight. The 17.06 doesn't normally get here that quickly...

The Mercure (formerly Norfolk) Hotel on TripAdvisor:

Rating: 1/5

The title is self-explanatory!

Well, well well...where to start?! The website describes as a, "first class 4 Star Hotel". I couldn't identify any factors which would suggest a 4 star rating.

We checked in at reception and were given a room on the first floor. The room was dated and dirty (I have stayed in better Travelodges!), I would be ashamed to call myself a four star hotel and then offer rooms of that quality and standard. After discovering a large stain on the bedding we were moved to room 250. It appeared this may have also been an upgrade. The room was standard and the décor was adequate, but still no airs of a four star establishment. The room faced on to a back street and there was a great deal of noise from this street- mainly coming from the back of the hotel.

The hotel is quite far from the main strip and so is around a 10 minute walk. While discovering Brighton we found a few other nice hotels along the seafront and when returning will be staying there. This was an utter disappointment.

Stayed August 2014, travelled with friends

Let's hope the good people frequenting the inns and discotheques of West Street make their usual quiet and understated way home when they leave in the small hours of tomorrow morning.

Brighton
Sheffield stayed at the Hilton Metropole, but here is the reason why Bolton are slumming it.
It's a bank holiday weekend and rooms are booked for three days not just for a Friday night so no big hotel would want a small one night booking.
