"Fifa said in a statement: “FC Barcelona is to serve a transfer ban which will see the club prevented from registering any players at both national and international level for two complete and consecutive transfer periods, starting with the next registration period (January 2015).”

Well done to Fifa

A Fifa investigation – centred on several players who were registered and played between 2009 and 2013 – found that Barcelona and the Spanish football federation were guilty of a “serious” infringement of the rules in relation to 10 players.

Barcelona were also fined 450,000 Swiss francs while the Spanish FA was fined 500,000 Swiss francs and given a year to “regularise its regulatory framework and existing system concerning the international transfer of minors in football”. An appeal by the Spanish FA was also rejected.

Basically for child footballer trafficking, they were bringing youngsters from South America over to La Macia when it's against FIFA regulations (they should have other reasons to be moving to a new country, such as parents having new jobs unrelated to football).

Funny this was confirmed after they signed Suarez etc.

An utterly farcical ruling.

If they were guilty of wrongdoing as it seems they were, any ban should have been immediate (ie - no Suarez, Rakitic, Vermaelen or ter Stegen). Even as a Barca fan, I think this is more than a little ridiculous to be honest.
